Match Report

Last night Hull Thunder GLBs continued they’re unbeaten start to the HEYVA local league season recording a dominant 3-0 victory over Holderness Phoenix. The GLBs once again had a strong squad at they’re disposal to it was to prove dividends against an experience Holderness Phoenix team that have so often proved tough opposition in the past.

GLBs started the first set well taki…ng an early lead but were pegged back by a fine run of serves by Phoenix Simon Webb. The two teams then traded points in what became a period littered with poor serving from both teams only for GLBs quality to show through and take the set 27-25.

In the second set GLBs strength in depth showed through as they were able to make 4 changes I prefer to give everyone game time. The home side where really starting to fire on all cylinders in this set aided by some excellent setting from veteran Martin Worsnop (playing in his 37 season in the HEYVA local league) and Joanna Jurkiewicz (the newbie once again proving to be an excellent addition to the team). The big talking point was a rotation fault by Phoenix which after the enquiry, Holderness never seemed to get back into the set with GLBs taking it 25-16.

Going into the third set confidence was high and GLBs started where they left off, with they’re strength in depth really coming to the fore. With the team on a roll they even had the luxury of swapping the whole team throughout the last set. The GLBs ran out 25-20 winners stool the game 3-0.

A special mention to Cameron Boyers who showed so great touches front court at times, if he continues improving like that he could real asset to the team.

Thanks to everyone who played, those who helped officiate and those who came down to support.

Thanks also to Holderness, we look forward to playing you later in the season at your new venue.
